The focal button in this piece is very special…it is an iridescent Mother of Pearl with an octagon design and just glows beautifully when the light hits it. It had a metal shank that I removed. The shell material is most probably abalone with its very visually appealing subtle and soft colors of aqua, pink, and cream. While hard to date era and place of origin, all I can say is that this button was very well designed and constructed in both beauty, and strength.
The framing is intricate copper wire weaving. I learned this design from a tutorial by Kelly Jones from the United Kingdom on U Tube. The copper has been given a warm and lovely patina and then buffed for added beauty. I applied a protective finish, but this may wear off eventually. A gentle buffing with a jewelry cloth will bring back the soft shine.
The copper chain is 17 inches in length and features a hand made extension copper chain adding another three inches if desired. The closure is also handmade with hook and eye.
Three tiny hematite faceted stones embellish the weaving right above the button.
Measurements of the pendant are: width 7/8” by length 1 1/2”.
The combination of the wonderful button and the sweet wire weaving make this a very enjoyable “go to “piece to own !
