Handcrafted Earrings designed with Antique Cut Steel Buttons , Vintage Mirror Back Buttons, and Fresh Water Pearls
Lovely and elegant, this is a design showcasing Antique Cut Steel Openwork Brass Buttons framed with Vintage Brass Mirror Back Buttons.
Cut Steel refers to tiny polished and faceted pieces of steel that are riveted to a backing. They have a delicate and subtle glitter that is delightful.
Mirror Back metal buttons have openwork design with a sheet of shiny metal beneath that plays with the light. Here, they have been first flattened, then rounded, and finally shaped and all rough edges smoothed.
The Cut Steel Buttons are securely wired onto the frame using their shanks and thin wire. There is a photo showing the shanks and this process.
If at all possible, I like to maintain the wholeness of the antique buttons as a respect to their wonderful history.
Small lustrous white fresh water pearls embellish the earrings.
The handmade French hook ear wires are made with gold filled 20 gauge wire. They have been strengthened in a tumbler and the little loops holding the earrings are soldered closed.
The total drop length is 1 3/8”.
The width at the widest point is 7/8”.
