Earrings Designed with a Flair For Ancient China Done with Gold Toned Vintage and Antique Metal Buttons and Fresh Water Pearls
When metal buttons are flattened and shaped, the impressions upon them take on an old world effect ,and they are beautifully transformed. Here, two buttons on each earring are done in this way.
Right above the top button is a hand made brass embellishment that has been intricately wired on. That, and the lovely silvery white fresh water pearls dangling below, add to the ancient Chinese flair.
The total drop length is one and three quarter inches.
The width at the widest point is 3/4 of an inch.
The hand made French hook ear wires are fashioned with 20 gauge gold filled wire that has been hardened in a tumbler and the little loops are soldered closed.
As a teenager, one of my favorite books was Pearl S Bucks’s The Good Earth. I was intrigued by her rich and vivid descriptions of Old China. Even in the simplicity of the farmers lives, it seemed that everything was interwoven with an ancient art grown through five thousand years of its civilization. The profound beauty of this art is in everything from clothing, furniture ,jewelry, architecture, and music to religion, and human behavior.
